It was the wish of our
Father Founder, St Arnold Janssen, that God the Holy
Spirit and His saving work receive prominent place in our life of faith and
in our piety. For this reason he named our Congregation “Servants of the
Holy Spirit.” By our name he was expressing his own personal love for the
Holy Spirit and his desire that this love would inspire many more and that
he wanted our charism to be contemplative-missionary because he was deeply
aware that the missionary dynamism of the Church comes from the Holy Spirit
and that the Spirit is the source of all prayer. So he would dedicate our
Congregation to the Holy Spirit. – Our
Life of Prayer as SSpSAP by Rev. Fr. Peter McHugh, SVD
.
Our spirituality is
rooted in the Blessed Trinity. We strive to penetrate more deeply into this
unfathomable mystery and to live with fuller awareness in intimate union
with the three divine Persons, in loving contemplation, humble adoration and
joyful praise.
.
We fulfill our vocation in a life which, under the Holy Spirit’s guidance,
is completely oriented to contemplation through faith-filled immersion in
the love of the triune God and in the mystery of salvation. By this way of
life we witness to the basic truth that God is the true center of being and
the goal of history and He alone can satisfy the human heart.
.
Our contemplative life draws its strength from the sacrament of the
Eucharist. To the love which is bestowed on all in this mystery, and not
requited by everyone, we respond with the service of perpetual adoration,
which was introduced by our Founder as our special obligation, and approved
as such by the Church.
.
We are aware of a special call to efficacious participation in the Church’s
missionary work, in which we cooperate through prayer and sacrifice. In the
service of evangelization and the sanctification of priests we are to lead a
life of faith-inspired contemplation and grateful adoration, of steadfast
prayer and selfless service.
.
In solidarity with the Church, we pray the Liturgy of the Hours in choir and
lift to God the Church’s concerns, interests and activities. We also pray
for missionaries and priests in various fields of ministry and intercede in
behalf of all humankind. Every distress and hardship in the world find a
vigorous response in our prayer.
.
Within the Church our Congregation participates in the work of salvation. In
our adoration of the Eucharist, the true presence of Christ on earth, may
our witness to His saving power be a sign of hope for all, until that hope
is fulfilled forever in that kingdom where love will have no end. – Duc in

In our contemplative-missionary vocation,
we take Mary who pondered these things in her heart
(cf Lk 2: 19, 51) for our model whose virtues we wish to emulate. We enfold
our entire life in her Fiat spoken out of a deep faith and
in the power of the Holy Spirit and remain faithful to our Yes in every
little things that God wills. We live our vocation in hope, great trust and
confidence and fidelity to the love of the Holy Spirit.
